I believe your portraits should be something a bit special.
My portrait shoots are designed around creating something special for your wall,
creating a focal and talking point for a room .
I work with a local bespoke framer in Surrey who will frame your chosen prints in a way
that compliments the colours and themes in the image and also fits in with your homes décor and style.

Stunning Portraits
Portraits that reflect you and your style are what I specialise in.
I believe that portraits work best when captured in a setting that you’re most comfortable in
and that says something about you, whether that be your home, your local town centre or park or perhaps something else, an Aquarium or Theme Park, or maybe the beach at sunset, the possibilities are endless and limited only by your imagination.

Childhood Captured
Our Childhood passes by so quickly, before your know it your children are teenagers,
and then adults, maybe with kids of their own. Capture your children’s early years with a professional portrait shoot with Andrew at one of your favourite places so that the memories of that special time live can be remembered forever.

When you book a portrait shoot with me, have a think about what it is that you would like at the end of our time together. Would you like a large framed print or maybe a montage of smaller images? Perhaps a Gallery Canvas or two.
Make your portrait shoot count by buying something that commemorates those memories.

Advice & Answers for Portrait Shoots.

What do I get at the end of the shoot?
You need to have a good think about your final product before committing to a shoot.
If you are going to the trouble of doing a shoot, you need to make sure you are getting something worth while from it.
The obvious end product from a shoot is a Framed Wall Print
and I highly recommend that you consider this as the goal of your shoot with me.
I also do smaller prints and Albums, and should you want it, you can buy the full set of photos from me on Disc as well.

What should I wear for the shoot?
I find it's best to wear casual clothes, something that you are comfortable in and that is typically 'you'.
Avoid anything with detailed patterns on such as pin-stripes (Big flower print dresses etc are fine),
also avoid logos (which date) and clashing colours.
Solid colours are best.

Where will the shoot Happen?
I prefer to do portrait shoots on location, and ideally over a couple of locations.
Good ideas might be, your house, your local town centre, a park, the beach, a local attraction (Fair/Aquarium/Country House) etc etc.
There really is no right or wrong place for the lifestyle portrait shoots that I do.
The best way to think about it is to have an idea of the kind of end product you want,
then think about the location that best suits that and that best reflects you as a person.
For example;
You want to have some lovely shots of the kids.
They're somewhere between 4 and 9 maybe, and you live in the country.
So maybe we'll start at your home so the children and get used to me, maybe get a few shots of them playing so they can see what's involved before we head off to the local downs where everyone walks their dogs. We'll go for a walk and get photos as we go.
Perhaps we could stop off at that picturesque village and wander round there for a short time before heading home to get just a few more shots to finish off.

What's your style of Portraiture?
I suppose you could categorise my portrait shoots as 'lifestyle'.
In other words I prefer to use the environment as the backdrop to my portraits
as I believe it create a more natural photo that better reflects you as a person.

Do you do the white Background/Studio style photos?
I can yes.
I have a portable white background that I can set up in most homes to create such photos.

Advice & Answers for Baby Shoots.

Are you CRB checked?
Yes I am.

Do you have children of your own?
I do, there's a few shots of my son James in the Baby gallery, the first photo is of him.

NEWBORN SHOOTS
When should I book my Newborn Shoot?

You should book your Newborn shoot with me before you have actually given birth.
Obviously it's difficult to predict when your baby will come, so nothing is set in stone.
Should your baby arrive quite early or late, just keep me informed and I will shift the date of the shoot
around to suit.

How long after the birth should we do the shoot?
Newborns are best photographed in the first 2 weeks, ideally in the first 5 to 10 days
as they are still very sleepy meaning I can pose them and they will (hopefully) sleep blissfully though it.
Although if they don't sleep, it's not a big deal.
Shoots can obviously take place later than this, but the sleeping shots become so much harder to create.
That said, I'm happy to photograph babies at any age.

What should I do to prepare for the shoot?
The best baby shots tend to be with a naked baby, so make sure your house is lovely and warm by the time of the shoot.
The best way to prepare your baby for the shoot is to undress them, and then swaddle and feed them before I arrive,
which will allow the baby to fall asleep naked rather then try to undress them once they are asleep which may wake them.

Where do the shoots take place?
The shoots will take place in just 1 room, ideally a bedroom with good natural light so that I can pose the baby on the bed.
Change your bedding to a white set, or just remove the coloured pillow cases etc to leave the white duvet and pillows.
You might also want to put some white sheets or Maternity Bed Mats down too in case your baby has an accident during the shoot
(which is fine by the way, I've seen it all and babies will be babies after all).

BABY SHOOTS
How do you work shoots for slightly older babies?
As babies grow, they soon develop a little personality all their own.
For older babies I forgo the naked shots (Unless thats what you would like to have) and focus more on them as a little person.
It's best to book the time of the shoot to fit with the babies feeds, so ideally just after a feed so they are more placid and happy.
Rather then stick to the white background of the bed sheets, we'll take in more of the house and get shots of them in their nursery or play gym and with Mummy and Daddy.

What if I need to change or feed my baby? Or what if he/she is grumpy?
As a father myself, I'm fully aware of a babies needs and moods, which is why my shoots are not high pressure.
A shoot can be completed in about an hour or less, but they can sometimes be anywhere up to 4 hours or more.
In my newborn shoots I allow for roughly 4 hours shooting time, but I probably won't be shooting for a
lot of that if your baby needs changing etc or just takes a while to settle.

TESTIMONIALS

PORTRAITS
Andrews is obviously an artist and his photos reflect this. I have had a photo shoot done by Andrew for me and my family and been to a wedding where he was the photographer and on both occasions he was very good with the people he was working with and captured lots of fantastic moments.

Well what can I say, they are absolutely wonderful, I love them I really do, and I would without a doubt love to do it again sometime when Mollie is in a better mood. I could get addicted to having them done!!!
Thank you so much.
Take care and hopefully see you soon x

Laura, Mollie and Georgia.

We both felt Andrew did a great job with his photos of our 3 month year old daughter and managed to really show her true character. We found his shooting style to be very relaxed which suited our daughter even when she was being a bit grumpy, he still managed to get some lovely shots. We would recommend Andy for anyone wanting to capture a lasting memory of their baby.

BUMPS & BABIES
I just wanted to write to say a huge thank you for taking photo's of Ollie. We have used the shots for our thank you card. I can't believe you managed to get such amazing photos, really capturing him and his personality. You were so patient with him and us.... with lots of breaks for feeding and cuddles! I have and will continue to recommend you to my friends - these are photos I will treasure for life.

We requested the bump and baby shoots, on both occasions Andrew was punctual, professional and patient with his subject. We were quickly presented with a range of quality images capturing a unique moment in time

Andrew did a newborn shoot for me recently, and I am delighted with the pictures - very creatively shot, capturing each moment perfectly. He was very patient with the baby, giving me plenty of time to feed and settle the baby down in between shots. I would definitely recommend him, exceptional photography with excellent service!
- Neha Agarwal
Fetcham, Surrey

Andrew, being a new father himself, was very understanding of the needs of babies and new mothers and the shoot was very relaxed and comfortable as a result. As for the photos themselves, they are absolutely adorable and of a very high production and creative standard. I would not hesitate in recommending Andrew to any of my friends and will certainly use him again myself in the future.

We used Andrew Dobell Photography to have some photos taken of our 3 week baby. Andrew came to our home to take the pictures and managed to work brilliantly with our daughter. The photos themselves are fantastic and it was hard to choose which to pick. Andrew himself is a friendly person who makes you feel relaxed, especially through the crying moments! We would thoroughly recommend any parent to capture the early days of their newborn by using a photographer, and you will not be disappointed in Andrew’s fine work!
